Our Assessment

The L.A.R. Grizzly Mark I is essentially an upsized, hand-fitted 1911 built around the potent .45 Winchester Magnum cartridge. Early prototypes were fabricated from welded frames; production Grizzlies were carefully hand-fitted to handle the longer cartridge and increased slide mass. With a crisp trigger, adjustable target sights, and a substantial, well-balanced frame, the Grizzly is well suited to hunting and long-range target work where large-bore performance is required. This example is exceptionally clean for the model and presents as a high-quality example that will appeal to shooters seeking power and accuracy, or to collectors of American large-frame pistols.
