Our Assessment
Introduced in 1955, the Colt Python quickly became synonymous with precision and performance. Each example was hand-fitted and tuned by Colt’s master gunsmiths, resulting in a revolver that many regard as the finest production double-action ever made. This 1972 Python, with its short 2.5” barrel and deep blue finish, reflects both the craftsmanship and collectibility that define the model.
While this example has been refinished, it retains its sharp mechanics, tight lock-up, and bright bore. Compact, elegant, and mechanically superb, it represents a desirable combination of vintage Colt heritage and functional performance—a worthy addition to any serious revolver collection.
