Our Assessment

The TWC 9 arrived during an extraordinary period of growth for the double stack 1911 market. By the early 2020s, the basic 1911 architecture had evolved far beyond the traditional single stack Government Model, with manufacturers increasingly combining its highly regarded single action trigger system with higher capacity magazines, optics mounting systems, modern materials, and competition influenced ergonomics.

Jacob Grey Firearms brought an unusual background to that increasingly competitive field. The company traces its manufacturing expertise to the precision aerospace industry, and the TWC 9 reflects that emphasis on modern machining and tightly integrated components.

At its heart, the TWC 9 remains unmistakably influenced by the 1911. It retains a single action fire control system and familiar operating layout while adopting the wider double stack configuration commonly associated with modern 2011 style pistols. Chambering in 9mm further places it firmly within the contemporary performance pistol category.

This example uses a 4.25 inch 416 stainless steel bull barrel, providing a Commander length format that strikes a balance between the full size competition oriented double stack pistol and a more compact configuration. The bull barrel adds mass toward the muzzle while eliminating the traditional 1911 barrel bushing arrangement.

The sighting system similarly bridges traditional and modern handgun design. An XS night sight remains available at the front, while the rear sight is incorporated into the optics plate. Mounted above it is a Holosun HE508T-RD X2, providing a modern electronic sighting system with multiple selectable reticles.

Manufactured in 2024, this TWC 9 remains in Excellent condition with approximately 99 percent of its original anodized black finish. Its bore is bright with sharp rifling, no erosion, and a 10 out of 10 rating. The package also includes its matching factory box, carrying case, additional optic plates, factory paperwork, lock, and magazine.

The TWC 9 represents an interesting point in the continuing evolution of John Browning’s century old pistol architecture. Rather than attempting to recreate a traditional 1911, Jacob Grey adapted its fundamental strengths to the expectations of the modern handgun market: increased capacity, precision machining, an optics ready configuration, and contemporary ergonomics.

For collectors following the rapid development of the modern double stack 1911, or enthusiasts interested in newer American manufacturers bringing advanced machining capabilities into firearms production, the Jacob Grey TWC 9 is a compelling example of where the platform has gone more than a century after the original 1911 was adopted.
