Our Assessment

The 9mm Winchester Magnum was introduced in the 1970s in an effort to deliver .357 Magnum level performance from a semi automatic platform. While powerful, it required a robust firearm to manage its pressures and velocity. The Automag III, designed under the influence of Harry Sanford’s earlier Auto Mag projects, answered that call with an all stainless steel construction and substantial slide mass.

Production numbers for the Automag III in 9mm Winchester Magnum were limited, and the cartridge itself eventually fell out of mainstream popularity. However, brass remains available for those who handload, and the combination of limited production and a niche magnum autoloading cartridge makes examples like this increasingly interesting to collectors.

This 1993 Automag III remains in Fine Plus to Excellent condition with a strong bore, solid mechanics, and its original box and paperwork. For enthusiasts of magnum semi automatics or collectors of unique 1990s era designs, it stands as a distinctive piece of American firearms history.
