Our Assessment
Colt’s Government Model has remained relevant for well over a century because the original 1911 design continues to balance reliability, shootability, and an excellent trigger system better than most service pistols that followed it. While later production guns introduced modern manufacturing methods and optional safety changes, the Series 70 style remains especially attractive to those who prefer the classic configuration without a firing pin block.
This example pairs that familiar setup with a National Match barrel, classic double-diamond wood grips, and a custom brushed nickel finish accented by gold-colored controls. Chambered in .38 Super, it offers a cartridge long appreciated for its flat trajectory, light recoil, and strong following among 1911 enthusiasts. In Fine condition as customized and complete with its original case, this pistol would make a strong addition to a Colt collection or serve as an eye-catching shooter for someone who appreciates a more personalized Government Model.
