Our Assessment
The original Marlin Model 1895 ceased production in 1915, but the design returned in modernized form in 1972 and has since become one of the most respected big bore lever action platforms available. The 1895MXLR was produced only from 2006 to 2009, making it a comparatively limited variant within the broader 1895 family.
Chambered in .450 Marlin, this rifle was built for hunters who wanted serious stopping power in a fast handling lever gun without relying on older ammunition formats. Its Ballard rifling is especially well regarded for its performance with lead bullets, and the stainless steel and laminate stock combination makes it well suited for rough weather and hard use.
This 2006 example remains in excellent condition with a bright bore, crisp action, and original accessories. Whether considered as a practical hunting rifle or a limited production Marlin for the collection, the 1895MXLR stands out as a strong and desirable modern lever action.
