Our Assessment
The Browning Superposed occupies a unique place in firearms history as the last major design associated with John Moses Browning and one ultimately completed by his son, Val Browning. Introduced in 1931, the Superposed combined elegant lines, robust lockup, selective single trigger operation, and dependable ejectors into one of the finest production over under shotguns of its era. Belgian made Superposed guns remain especially respected for their fit, finish, and craftsmanship.
This example is a 1960 produced .410 Gauge Superposed with 28 inch vent rib barrels and fixed Full over Full chokes. Small bore Superposed shotguns have long been prized for both field use and sporting clays, offering light recoil, refined handling, and an added level of challenge for experienced shooters. At just over six and a half pounds, this shotgun balances beautifully while maintaining the solid feel expected from FN produced Brownings.
Condition reflects honest field and handling use over the decades, with visible receiver wear and scattered marks in the walnut stocks, but the shotgun retains strong mechanical condition, tight lockup, crisp operation, and excellent bores. For collectors of Belgian Brownings, classic sporting shotguns, or small bore over unders, this remains a desirable postwar Superposed.
