Archival record: Specifications and condition reflect the firearm as listed at the time of auction.

Final Auction Price: $1,226.00

The Ruger 10/22 is one of the most successful and enduring rimfire rifle designs in American firearms history. Introduced in 1964, it quickly became a benchmark for reliability, affordability, and adaptability. Early production examples, particularly those manufactured before Ruger’s safety warning markings were added to barrels, are increasingly sought after by collectors. This 1965 example, bearing a rare three-digit serial number, represents the second year of 10/22 production and stands as an important early variant of the model.

Our Assessment

The Ruger 10/22 has been in continuous production since 1964 and remains one of the most customizable firearms ever produced, with an unmatched aftermarket supporting everything from target shooting to small-game hunting and training use. Early “pre-warning” rifles, produced before Ruger added safety disclaimer markings to the barrel, are increasingly scarce.

This 1965 example is particularly notable for its three-digit serial number, placing it firmly in the second year of production. Retaining strong original finish, a bright bore, and correct early features, it represents a desirable collectible configuration while still remaining fully functional. This rifle would make a strong addition to a Ruger collection or a vintage rimfire lineup focused on early American semi-automatic designs.
