Heckler & Koch P7M13 — 9mm Parabellum Semi-Automatic Pistol (1987)

Archival record: Specifications and condition reflect the firearm as listed at the time of auction.

Final Auction Price: $4,800.00

The Heckler & Koch P7M13 represents the peak evolution of HK’s iconic gas-delayed, squeeze-cocker pistol design. Developed during the Cold War era in response to evolving European police requirements, the P7 series is widely regarded as one of the most innovative service pistols of the 20th century. The M13 variant expanded the original concept with a higher-capacity double-stack magazine while retaining the platform’s legendary accuracy, safety, and mechanical refinement.

Sights / Optics

The pistol features a three-dot sighting system. The front sight is a dovetailed blade with a single white dot. The rear sight is a flat-top square notch with two white dots, dovetailed and screw-set into the slide. The top of the slide incorporates a low-profile serrated rib to reduce glare.

Stock / Grip Configuration & Condition

The grips are high-strength polymer panels with textured sides and smooth borders. There are a few minor rubs along the smooth edges but no cracks or chips. Overall grip condition: Fine to Excellent.

Finish & Overall Condition

Type of Finish: Blued

Finish Originality: Original

This pistol retains approximately 97% of its original blued finish. There is faint thinning at some leading edges, along with a few light lines and small freckles consistent with limited handling. Operational wear is minimal and markings remain crisp. Overall condition: Fine-Plus.

Bore & Mechanics

Bore Condition: Mostly bright with well-defined polygonal rifling and a few faint patches of erosion. Rated 9/10.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The P7’s unique gas-delayed blowback system vents gas into a cylinder beneath the barrel to retard slide movement, allowing the use of a fixed barrel. The pistol is cocked by squeezing the frontstrap, producing a short, smooth trigger pull. The ambidextrous magazine release is located at the trigger guard. The slide-to-frame fit is tight. The pistol was not test-fired; cleaning and inspection are recommended prior to use.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories

Included is a black polymer Heckler & Koch case, manual, gas cylinder bushing tool, cleaning brush, and two 13-round magazines. The case does not latch closed properly. Magazines will not be included where prohibited by law.

Our Assessment

Following the 1972 Munich Olympics massacre, West German police sought a modern service pistol emphasizing safety, rapid deployment, and reliability. Heckler & Koch’s P7 design answered that call with an entirely new operating system and one of the safest carry methods ever devised. The original single-stack P7 was soon followed by the higher-capacity P7M13, developed in time for U.S. military trials in the 1980s.

Although the Beretta M9 ultimately won the contract, the P7M13 is often regarded by enthusiasts as the finest iteration of the series. Its fixed barrel contributes to excellent accuracy, the squeeze-cocker provides unmatched carry safety, and the all-steel construction reflects classic German manufacturing standards. This 1987-dated example shows minimal wear, retains strong rifling, and presents as a well-preserved representative of one of HK’s most respected pistol designs. It is equally suited to a serious collection or as a reference example of late-Cold-War service handgun development.
